Four frightful Movies for Halloween
  1. Halloween  (1978)

In order to prepare yourself for the Halloween spirit, what better way than watching “Halloween,” the cult classic movie?  In 1963 on Halloween night in Haddonfield, Illinois, 15-year-old Judith Myers was killed by her six-year-old brother Michael.  15 years later on the night before Halloween, Michael escaped from a mental institution to return back to Haddonfield to find his next victims.  “Halloween” is considered the ultimate Halloween movie and a stepping stone for future slasher films.  For over four decades, this vast movie franchise continues to grow the classic scary movie genre.

  1. Beetlejuice  (1988)

From the mind of Tim Burton, “Beetlejuice” is the most famous rite of passage for a Halloween film.  This movie follows the spirits of a deceased couple, the Maitlands who are stuck haunting their old home.  When an unbearable family, the Deetzes and their daughter Lydia move in, the couple tries to scare them away. After being unsuccessful, the Maitlands seek out help from a malicious spirit in hopes to drive them out.  This film has a good mix of comedy, horror and dark fantasy.  Just make sure you don’t say his name three times.

  1. Hocus Pocus (1993)

Watch out because the witches are back in Disney’s 1993 film “Hocus Pocus.”  In 1693 three witches of Salem, the Sanderson sisters were executed for the use of dark magic.  Before they were executed, they released a curse stating if a virgin lights the black flame they shall return once again.  Fast-forward 300 years, new kid Max Dennison, after hearing the story of the Sanderson sisters, tries to show off to his crush Allison and his sister Dani by lighting the virgin candle.  Now, the sisters are back for a night of mischief, magic and horror on Halloween night.

  1. Scream (1996)

Looking for a movie that will make you scream? A year after the murder of her mother, teenage girl Sidney Prescott, and her friends end up being stalked by the new masked murderer of Woodsboro.  This new killer targets Sidney and her friends by using horror films as part of his villainous game.  “Scream” is the perfect movie for horror and satire all in one.  This film will for sure make you question if you like scary movies.
