BGSU hockey sophomore Austen Swankler has been nominated for the Hobey Baker Award.

Since Swankler has stepped foot on campus, he has been a fan favorite; from being second in points for the team last year, to his incredible sophomore season so far.

So far this season, he has seven more goals and three more assists than he did last year in eleven fewer games. Swankler is currently trailing only Western Michigan’s Ryan McAllister by three points for the most points in the country. He also ranks fifth in assists and is tied for third in goals in the national rankings.

He currently leads the CCHA in goals, assists, and points.

Earlier in his current 16 game point streak, he was named National Player of the Month for the month of December by the Hockey Commissioners Association. During that month, he had six goals and nine assists in only seven games, averaging over two points a game.

Fellow Bowling Green Falcon Nathan Burke was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award last season. The last Bowling Green Hobey Baker winner was Brian Holzinger, who was named the nation’s top college hockey player in 1994–95.
