This spring the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation will conduct a prescribed burn at Wintergarden/St. Johns Nature Preserve, according to a press release for the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation.

By having prescribed burns in parks such as Wintergarden, non-native invasive species can be effectively removed. The controlled burns are a cost effective way to enhance the natural wildlife and aid plant management.

The burn will be managed by a Certified Prescribed Fire Manager, as well as trained City of Bowling Green staff and Wood County Park District staff. The City of Bowling Green Fire Department will also watch over the burn.

The press release states that, if community members use the preserve during the burn, they are asked to stay on the trails and maintain distance. Certain trails may be closed for the public safety, as most burns last a few hours, according to the press release.

Any questions can be directed to the Rotary Nature Center in Wintergarden/St. John’s Nature Preserve.
