Women’s basketball: MAC standings tighten up

Kadie+Hempfling+of+the+Bowling+Green+Womens+Basketball+team+goes+up+for+a+layup+in+their+season+opener+at+the+Stroh+Center+on+Sunday%2C+Nov.+29%2C+2020.

Kadie Hempfling of the Bowling Green Women’s Basketball team goes up for a layup in their season opener at the Stroh Center on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020.

As the month of March approaches, so do the Mid-American Conference basketball tournaments. The women’s basketball standings have grown extremely tight from the third spot all the way down to tenth.

Toledo leads the conference and the Rockets received votes in the national poll this week after a 29-point route of rival Bowling Green. The Buffalo Bulls are currently second in the standings, three games behind the Rockets. Beyond both Toledo and Buffalo is where the conference standings are a close call.

As of Feb. 15, the No. 3 through No. 9 positions are separated by less than three games. The Falcons currently stand in seventh place, with a tough stretch of games to end the season. Five of the Falcons’ last seven games are against teams currently ahead of them in the standings.

On the men’s side of the standings the race is also very close. Toledo and Buffalo continue to bounce back and forth.
