After a scoreless first half, Valparaiso came back in the second half to beat the BG women’s soccer team 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Valparaiso University.
The Falcons dropped to 1-5-0 and the Crusaders improved to 4-2-1.
At the end of the first half, the game was tied at zero but Valparaiso came back in the second half and scored the first goal of the game at 54 minutes.
Sarah Ludwig scored the first goal for Valparaiso and was assisted by Abby Kenyon.
At 81 minutes Janine Lytle scored the second Valparaiso goal, assisted by Tara Ellis. The final goal of the game was scored by Jordyn Ryfiak and assisted by Janine Lytle and Tara Ellis at 83 minutes.
BG senior Sarah Vonderbrink had two shot attempts and one on goal and junior Madeline Wideman had three shot attempts and also one on goal.
Falcon goalkeeper, Becca Ison, played the entire match and made five saves. Ison, a fifth year senior, has played every game this season for the Falcons.
Kristen Manski played in the net for Valparaiso and made two saves during the match.
The game did not finish until nearly three hours after the start due to inclement weather that was picked up on the radar, forcing the teams to wait for another 56 minutes until they were given the all-clear to play.
For the first time in Valparaiso women’s soccer history, the team is unbeaten at home through five matches.
The BG women’s soccer team will return home this weekend to play Illinois State on Friday at 7 p.m. and Loyola, Ill., on Sunday at 1 p.m.
