The women’s basketball team will host Ball State Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Anderson Arena. After a close 73-62 victory over their archrivals Toledo, the Falcons are looking to win their 28th consecutive game at Anderson Arena.
BG already holds a school and conference record by winning 34-striaght contests against Mid-American-Conference opponents.
The Falcons have won 13 consecutive games since their Dec. 19 loss to No. 1 ranked Duke and have won 54 of their last 60 games. The Falcons have also won five games in a row by a double-digit margin.
The Falcons go into the match-up against the Cardinals with a record of 20-2 (9-0 MAC) and nothing seems to be stopping them.
Ball State, like every BG opponent, will have their hands full as BG typically has five players on the floor who can score and have passed every test put in front of them. Nonetheless, the Falcons are the ones with a target on their back.
“This team is finding ways to step up to the plate which is amazing to me because obviously we’re getting everybody’s best effort,” said BG Coach Curt Miller. “For a while it was the streak and then it was the [national ranking], but now it’s just ‘let’s be the one.’ Every team wants to be the one to beat us.”
Ball State comes into this game with a record of 17-3 (8-1 MAC) and is coming off a 15-point win over Buffalo.
The Cardinals have five players in double figures on the season, led by pre-season All-MAC selection Julie DeMuth who is 10th in the conference in scoring with 14.8 points per game.
“It’s going to have to be a team effort [to defend against the leading scorers], I don’t think you can dig yourself a hole against Ball State and get out of it,” Miller said. “They’re too good of a front-runner, and they’re too emotional of a team in that they really know how to put you away.”
This game will be a match-up between two of the MAC divisional leaders, with Ball State leading in the West and BG in the East.
“We’re going to have to compete and battle and scrap. It may be the most physical game of the year for us, and we’re going to have to be ready for that,” Miller said. “We’re just going to have to grind it out and do our best job.”
