  • My Fiction Icks
By Jay Grummel When you read as much as I do you start to notice common things in fiction that make you annoyed, upset  or even want to put down the book completely. I have a bad habit of not giving books much of a chance when they use some of these personal ‘icks’. However, […]
  • Poetry for Fall
By Jay Grummel Poetry has a way of connecting us to the external and internal world. In poetry it is easier to feel a season and truly feel a piece due to this. Poetry has a subtle way of making the readers immersed into the world of the poem. With the air getting colder and […]

Restaurant offers cure for Munchies

Toledo natives Mike Szymczak and Chuck Abde plan to bring fresh taste and a number of options to the area with their new sandwich shop, Munchies. Munchies is located on East Wooster Street, behind Circle K, a location the two owners chose after searching in a Toledo newspaper, according to Szymczak, who is familiar with the Bowling Green area. The two don’t think the location will limit them either. Szymczak said that Munchies won’t just be a place to go after the bars, though they will be open late. Szymczak and Abde believe that their meats, breads, and cheeses which will be imported from other parts of Ohio and sliced daily, will set them apart from the competitors in the area. Szymczak and Abde said their roast beef and corned beef will be their best sellers. “Nothing is frozen,” Szymczak said regarding their meats and cheeses. “I’ve always wanted to own a sandwich shop,” Szymczak said. According to Szymcak, Abde’s whose family owns Abde’s Steakhouse Black Angus, has been in the restaurant business all his life. “We are trying to serve all kinds of people,” Szymczak said. He also said that in order to make sure they get a large client base the co-owners plan to hand out and fax flyers of menus and daily specials on campus and get deals in the campus coupon book. He and Abde plan to serve a varied menu with daily specials. They also plan to serve vegetable trays and fruit cups to cater to vegetarians. In the future Szymczak and Abde would like to hold special events like hot-dog-eating contests and having a block party in the street that runs alongside their restaurant. Szymczak also said they would like to cater to organizations for campus.
