  • My Favorite Book – Freshwater
If there’s one book that I believe everyone should read once in their life, it’s my favorite book – Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi. From my course, Queer Literature under Dr. Bill Albertini, I discovered Emezi’s Freshwater (2018). Once more, my course, Creative Writing Thesis Workshop under Professor Amorak Huey, was instructed to present our favorite […]

The showdown

The scoreboard operator at Doyt Perry Stadium may want to make sure all the lights are working for this weekend’s game against Central Michigan.

Two of the top quarterbacks in the Mid-American Conference – BG’s Tyler Sheehan and Central Michigan’s Dan LeFevour – will be facing off for the first and last time of their collegiate careers.

The two seniors bring a season total of 3,885 passing yards and 40 total touchdowns (28 passing and 12 rushing) into the game. LeFevour has also gained 395 yards on the ground, giving BG coach Dave Clawson one of his toughest challenges in his first season leading the Falcons.

‘It all starts with their quarterback,’ Clawson said during yesterday’s MAC conference call. ‘The way they use him in the running game, they can really get some numbers on you. But even if you get off your blocks, he’s a tough guy to get down.’

For Central Michigan coach Butch Jones, he is more worried about Sheehan’s ability to find an open target, saying it’s more than the nation’s leading receiver Freddie Barnes that concerns him.

‘It’s not just Freddie Barnes. Tyler can make all the throws,’ Jones said. ‘[But] you have to be able to contain Freddie and tackle him. You know he’s going to get his catches.’

Injury report

Sophomore center Ben Bojicic was listed as doubtful by Clawson during yesterday’s teleconference and he said there will not be a report on senior offensive lineman Brady Minturn until later in the week.

He expects to have sophomore safety Keith Morgan in the starting lineup Saturday.

Honor roll

Barnes was named the College Football Performance Award’s National Wide Receiver of the Week for the second straight weekend after a strong showing against Ball State.

Barnes caught 10 passes for 160 yards while increasing his nation-leading stats in both categories to 85 and 982, respectively. He also caught three touchdowns on the day and is now tied for the nation’s lead in receiving touchdowns with eight.

Last week at Kent State, Barnes established new school records in receptions (22) and yards (278) while also grabbing three touchdowns.

Honor roll, part deux

Sheehan also got into the award mix yesterday, picking up the MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week award.

Against Ball State, Sheehan completed 28 of 41 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns, helping two receivers break the 100-yard plateau (Barnes, 160 and Chris Wright, 106)

Sheehan has won the award seven times his career, including once earlier this season after throwing for 383 yards against Marshall.

He was also named honorable mention for the CFPA’s National Quarterback of the Week award for the second straight week.

You’re my No. 1

Following a win against Western Michigan on Saturday, Jones had high praise for the entire Falcon squad.

‘Bowling Green is a very talented football team and were my pick to win the MAC East,’ Jones said. ‘We need to get some guys healthy. This was a very physical football game for us and now we face a great challenge in Bowling Green.’

The game kicks off in Doyt Perry Stadium Saturday at noon.
