  • Petrofiction Review: Oil on Water
Here’s my review of Oil on Water by Helon Habila – a petrofiction novel which won The Commonwealth Prize and Caine Prize. For context, petrofiction stems from petroleum and fiction. A specific text that focuses on petroleum culture in political economics and environmental impact. Although Habila’s novel begins with a journalist investigating a kidnapping, the […]

The return of ‘Glee’ is exciting for music lovers

For those of you who have been thinking about giving up on it, I must say to you, don’t stop believing. But for all of the others who are saying to themselves, “I can’t fight this feeling,” I know what you are going through. That feeling inside, that’s the undeniable excitement that you have for the returning satire, sing-along hit, “Glee.”

It’s hard to believe that anyone on campus doesn’t know one thing about the show, but for those who don’t, it’s a show based around a fictional glee club in Lima, Ohio. It’s a show encouraging anyone to let the inner loser in themselves shine and a tale about the underdogs in the world.

When watching, you’ll smile and it’s not hard to imagine why. The huge musical numbers, under the table sex jokes and likable characters will make anyone jump for joy.

But among all of the fun story lines, the show deals with plenty more topics that some believe put the show on a highway to hell. The president of the celibacy club is dealing with teenage pregnancy. The most talented character has gone on a quest to find her biological mother who gave her up for adoption. Another glee club member is dealing with telling the world he is gay. It’s hard for some to join in. But I say, open your heart; it’s not just another teenage soap opera. This show has heart and lets its true colors shine.

The guest stars on the show make me crazy in love with it as well. Last season, familiar faces included Neil Patrick Harris, Olivia Newton John and Kristin Chenoweth. This year, expect to see John Stamos and Britney Spears. They just make the show that much more beautiful.

I’ve experienced this show with a group of friends who can bust a move, and I’ve watched it solo and ended up dancing with myself. Whenever the show is on, one can truly feel nothing but happiness. You may even feel like you’re walking on sunshine.

So, forget your classes, your sorority, your parents and even forget the people you’ve written a bad romance with. When “Glee” is on this Tuesday, park yourself on the couch with your eyes fixated on the television.

Watch the show, because missing it might cause a total eclipse of the heart.
