  • My Favorite Book – Freshwater
If there’s one book that I believe everyone should read once in their life, it’s my favorite book – Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi. From my course, Queer Literature under Dr. Bill Albertini, I discovered Emezi’s Freshwater (2018). Once more, my course, Creative Writing Thesis Workshop under Professor Amorak Huey, was instructed to present our favorite […]

Falcons soccer defeat Titans for third straight win

BGSU men’s soccer defeated the Detroit Mercy Titans at Cochrane Stadium 2-0 on Tuesday night.

The No. 17 ranked Falcons came into the matchup as winners of two straight games, including a 2-0 upset against then No. 13 ranked Florida International. Confidence was sky high, and efficiency was as well.

Midway through the first half, senior Roberto Fernandez Garrido put the Falcons on the board to take a 1-0 lead. The goal was Garrido’s fourth of the season.

And in the second half, a penalty allowed senior Jacob Erlandson to score a penalty kick to cushion the Falcons lead to 2-0. Strong defense carried the Falcons to the victory from there on.

“Because of the focus we have on every set piece, we try to get one every time,” Erlandson said. “(Garrido) tonight put it away after a great throw, and it bounced off my head, so kudos to him.”

The game had a feeling of control from start to finish for the Falcons, as they outshot the Titans 19-12, and had a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Coach Eric Nichols was pleased with the focus and approach his team had coming off an upset win.

“I’m really proud of our approach to the game tonight,” Nichols said. “No matter who we played after the big win (against FIU), there would be a tendency to let down. The guys were able to regroup after that win, and they were excited about tonight’s challenge.”

The Falcons will be traveling to Buffalo, New York on Friday to take on the Canisius Golden Eagles. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
