“Yeah the boys ’round here, Drinking that ice cold beer, Talkin’ ’bout girls, talkin’ ’bout trucks, Runnin’ them red dirt roads out, kicking up dust…” in this hit Blake Shelton song, Boys ‘Round Here, you have most of the stereotypical country song references. Beer, girls, trucks, and dirt roads are all most commonly used words or phrases in country music.
Shelton himself among is fans and other music listeners would consider Shelton and his music true country. Which in this day and age is harder to come by than you would think. Gone are the days of musicians like Jonny Cash and George Strait however, like them we still have Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire.
Country music and its artist are still making classic country hits for the radio today but are dabbling in the pop industry as well. Most famously is Taylor Swift. Gone are the days of singing about Tim McGraw and instead she coos about all the things people have made her do.
It’s not just Swift either. Florida Georgia Line since the beginning of their career have been played on both country and pop stations. They have collaborated with the Backstreet Boys, Nelly and most recently Bebe Rexha.
Kacey Musgraves a Texas born country superstar recently stated in a Yahoo Entertainment interview, “I wondered: is there a world where Daft Punk meets country?”
Musgraves who will be opening for Harry Styles this summer on his solo tour is know for that classic old country sounds with nontraditional themes and ways of writing.
Musgraves, along with others won’t have to wonder much longer if Daft Punk can meet country. If country music isn’t already to this point, it will be in the next few years weather listeners want it to be or not.
