The womenís soccer team goes on the road this weekend for two MAC games. The Falconsí will play Akron today and Kent State on Sunday. The Falcons will be looking to bounce back from two MAC losses last weekend that dropped their conference record to 1-2. Falcons coach Andy Richards is expecting his team to rebound this weekend, but also said that the team must keep its focus.
ìWe worked hard this week and we are ready to play these games,î Richards said. ìEvery game is a winnable game, but every game is also a game we can lose. We cannot take these teams lightly.î
Freshman Leah Eggleton, who played very well last weekend, thinks the Falcons will play well this weekend.
ìI think we will definitely do well,î Eggleton said. ìWe practiced very well this week and we are pretty hyped up about it.î
After losing the two games in BG last weekend, playing two away games may have helped the Falcons. The team has played better away from Cochrane Field this season, something that Andy Richards said has gone on since he became head coach.
ìIf you look at our record over the years, we have had a much better record on the road,î Richards said. ìIt doesnít really make sense. I think it may be a mentality thing, and we have to overcome it, because we want to do well at home.î
Richards said that the players may feel more pressure at home, but that there is always pressure in MAC games.
ìThere is pressure to win in the MAC because we know it is such a knife edge,î Richards said. ì There is pressure on us, but there is also pressure on Akron and pressure on Kent State.î
Eggleton said that while there is pressure on the team to play better this weekend, she expects the team to thrive on it.
ìThereís a lot of pressure just because we have lost two MAC games already,î Eggleton said. ìBut I think we can handle it, and I expect that weíll win.î
Richards said that both Akron and Kent State are improved from last year, and expects both games to be a difficult for BG.
ìWe are looking at some tough games here,î Richards said. ìWe still feel that we can win these games. Iím sure that when teams see that they have Bowling Green as their next game, they know that we can play.î
The Falcons play the Zips at 7p.m. tonight, and play Kent State at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
