Union site of annual summer job fair

The Career Center is holding its 22nd Annual Summer Job Fair today in hopes of helping University students find summer employment.

The 22nd Annual Summer Job Fair will be held in the Bowen-Thompson Student Union, Room 202 from noon-4pm. This event is sponsored by the Career Center, a division of Student Affairs.

Peg Bucksky, Coordinator of the Job Location ‘ Development Program in the Career Center said she assists students who are looking for part-time, summer and seasonal jobs. One of her main job responsibilities is coordinating the Summer Job Fair Last year around 1000 students attended the job fair. This year with the event being held in the Student Union, Bucksky is expecting more students due to the convenient location.

“By attending the Summer Job Fair, students can get a jump on finding a summer job,” Bucksky said.

She said that a goal of the event is to encourage students to find a job before they go home for the summer.

There are employers looking for students with background fields in everything from hospitality management to recreation.

“They have jobs that not only offer paid employment, but work experience related to their majors,” Bucksky said.

There will be 60 companies and 125 recruiters, mostly from Ohio and Michigan at the event.

Employers will be recruiting students to fill a variety of summer positions, ranging from camp instruction and hospitality, to business, marketing and health professions to name a few.

Students are encouraged to bring their resumes, Bucksky said but they are not required. They should come dressed in business casual attire. Many employers will do on-the-spot, informal interviews at the fair.

Nichole Croskey, who plans on attending the event said, “It’s nice because I can go and learn about the company and even have an on the spot interview possibly. Its convenient with my hectic schedule.”

Bucksky said it is a wonderful opportunity for University students to explore the many summer job opportunities that are available for them.

“It’s a win-win situation for both students who are looking for summer jobs and for the employers who are looking to hire,” said Bucksky.
