Tom Oestrike allowed just two hits in six innings of work as the Falcons fell to Penn 1-0 at the Pepsi/Johnny Quik Classic on Friday afternoon.
Oestrike started the game on the mound for the Falcons facing 23 batters during six inning. The right-handed pitcher allowed five walks, no runs and struck out one batter.
The Falcons had a chance to tie the game up in the bottom of the ninth inning, but were unable to convert.
Despite the 1-0 loss the Falcons still earned four hits from David Barkholz, Jimmy Lipari, Bobby Majer and Kevin Longstreth. Coming into this season, Oestrike was fighting for a spot in the starting rotation with redshirt-sophomore Keith Laughlin, sophomores Matt Hundley and Burke Badenhop and freshman Tyler Johnson.
The Falcons are currently 1-7 overall and have yet to play a game at home due to the wet conditions of Warren Steller Field. Both yesterday’s and today’s games have been cancelled.
BG will start the Mid-American Conference portion of their schedule this weekend at home against Buffalo. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
