BG looks to keep winning
April 11, 2003
After going 6-0 on their recent homestand, the Bowling Green softball team will return to road action when they travel to Ball State for a three-game series.
The Falcons (15-17-1 overall, 6-5 in the Mid-American Conference) will look to continue their winning ways tomorrow, when they play a doubleheader against the Cardinals.
During the homestand, pitcher Liz Vrabel continued to dominate, winning three starts. She has been named the Mid-American Conference Pitcher of the Week for two consecutive weeks.
The Falcons have been the tale of two seasons in their MAC schedule, dropping their first five games, and then improving to 6-5 with their recent wins.
One of the biggest factors in the Falcon turnaround has been the steady improvement of the offense.
The Falcons were shutout in each of their five losses but rebounded to score a total of 25 runs during their winning streak. The BG defense was also a factor during the homestand, as the Falcons were able to hold off Miami, turning in two error-free performances in the doubleheader on Wednesday.
Bowling Green will rely on pitchers Vrabel and Jody Johnson to keep them in the games. Vrabel has allowed just two runs in her last 22 innings of work.
The Cardinals played their first game in eight days yesterday, dropping a 7-0 home game to Indiana State. The Ball State defense surrendered all seven runs in the first two innings.
With yesterday’s loss, Ball State falls to 9-14-1 overall.
The Falcons will look to keep their recent offensive success going and jump out to an early lead against the Cardinals.
The first game tomorrow, as well as Sunday’s game, will begin at 1 p.m.
After the three games in Muncie, the Falcons will return home to play Akron on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
