Getting away from pesky little brothers and sisters can be a perk for many college students who choose to live on campus.
However, Sibs N Kids Weekend, gives University students an opportunity to share everything from small dorm rooms to quality time with their siblings.
Ashley Webb, has participated in Sibs N Kids Weekend and said her 16-year-old brother came from Kentucky to visit her. It was nice she said to visit with Tyler because she had not seen him since winter break.
“Unlike a lot of brothers and sisters we’re pretty close and we get along for the most part,” Webb said. “It was nice to spend some quality time with him.”
Cheryl Names felt it was great to see her 10-year-old sister Jessica who came to see what dorm life had to offer. Names said her sister was amazed at how tiny the dorms were.
“All I can remember is Jessica walking into my room and saying to me “How do you live here?” Names said. “She was truly amazed that I could do it,” Names said. “It was pretty funny.” Names said that other than the initial shock of how small dorms actually are, the two sisters had a blast.
“I took my little sister to see a movie and then we went shopping. Sibs N Kids Weekend gave me a chance to spend some quality time with her, which unlike the usual sisterly arguing and fighting at home-was very nice,” Names said.
Webb said that it was a relief to take time from the usual studying to spend time with Tyler. She said Tyler participated in some of the activities that the University provided however he enjoyed the college atmosphere the most. Tyler picked out his favorite part of college life Webb said-the girls.
“My younger brother was excited to tour the campus-especially the girl’s dorms,” Webb said. “Sometimes I forget he’s 16 already-I guess I’ll always think of him as a little kid-even when he’s really in college one day,” Webb said.
After showing Jessica the University, Names said she hopes her younger sister will attend college one day. She said that Jessica hears her complain about the negative parts of college and she wants Jessica too see that college can be a great learning experience too.
“I can only hope that she had a good time too and that it was a positive opportunity for her-I look forward to having her come back and visit me again,” Names said.
