Culp leads women again

The cross country team had a highly successful weekend as they got solid performances from both the youthful and experienced sides of the roster.

The women were boosted by team captain Amber Culp while the men were lead by newcomer Edgar Ramirez.

“I was pleased with the efforts by both squads today,” coach Cami Wells said. “They all competed well and finished in a nice pack.” The women dominated their side of the open with Culp running a first place time of 19:16 in the 5K.

She was helped by teammates Andrea Pollack (19:41), Bridget Dalic (19:45), and Melissa Krueger (19:49), whom finished fifth, sixth, and seventh, respectively.

“Amber Culp led the race from start to finish and looked very strong throughout,” Wells said. “I was also very pleased with Andrea Pollack, Bridget Dalic, and Melissa Krueger.”

While the women dominated their side of the field, the men struggled while racing with just a partial squad of five runners. The only runner that placed in the top ten was Edgar Ramirez, who finished fourth with a time of 21:39 in the four-mile race.

“It was the first collegiate race for Edgar Ramirez,” Wells said. “He ran strong from start to finish. He is an aggressive runner with a bright future.”

Wells and her runners are looking forward to their meet against Toledo this weekend which is in Bowling Green and will start at five this Friday.
