Once more, my course, Creative Writing Thesis Workshop under Professor Amorak Huey, was instructed to present our favorite […]

Independent band would have jammed Howard’s

Due to booking problems at Howard’s Club H, The JiMiller Band will not be performing tonight as they had planned.

The band was looking forward to playing due to the amount of requests they received from fans to play in Bowling Green. A makeup date has already been booked for September 28. “It was a mistake on the bar’s part,” Jim Miller, lead singer of the band, said.

The show was originally going to be a CD release party for their latest live double disc album “Family Roots.”

The album was titled “Family Roots” because all of the music on it serves as a reference to the band member’s different roots and influences. These influences include blues, folk, Cajun and original rock ‘n’ roll.

“What we wanted to do was show our influences,” Miller said.

According to Miller you can hear the influences in the original music. All of the 27 live tracks were recorded in one night at the Greenville Inn located in Chagrin Falls, Ohio.

The Greenville Inn is one of the band’s old favorite stomping grounds according to Miller.

The JiMiller Band is planning to play out more often, but their main goal is to continue improving as a band.

“It’s the music that is the most important thing,” Miller said.

The JiMiller Band does all of their own promoting and releases their music independently. They have been able to attract a worldwide following using self-promotion.

“I’m not really concerned about getting signed,” Miller said.

According to Miller he is fed up with the whole record industry and if they happen to get signed then, so be it.

Miller isn’t a stranger to the record industry by any means. He was the lead man for the band Oroboros who toured for 18 years.

“It got to become too much monkey business,” Miller said. He left Oroboros in 1998 so he could find band members who were on the same page as him.

While Miller was still with Oroboros he was given the opportunity to open up for The Kinks, Hot Tuna, Santana and members of the Grateful Dead.

Miller has also jammed with some well-known artists by chance while on the Horde Tour.

During the first night of the Horde Tour at the Blossom Music Center in Cleveland, Miller’s band was scheduled to play at Shooters in the flats.

He invited everyone on the tour to the show, and to his surprise many of the bands showed up.

Miller and the rest of his band jammed out on stage that night with Blues Traveler, Sheryl Crow and the Allman Brothers.

The JiMiller Band was looking to jam out this Friday at Howard’s Club H, but instead they will have to wait until next fall when they are scheduled to come back.

“I’m really disappointed we’re not coming,” Miller said.
