The Bowling Green women’s golf team finished in ninth place at the MAC Championship at the Kalamazoo Country Club.
Kent State continues its 24-year MAC championship streak, still the only program to win a MAC title since the conference picked up the sport in 1999.
For the Golden Flashes, they finished +11 over the three-day tournament, beating second-place Northern Illinois by 33 strokes.
For the Falcons, their big story was once again senior Kayla Davis.
Davis finished second in the whole championship tournament, shooting 3 over par and winning the MAC Sports Women of the Year award.
For Davis, this caps off a very successful senior year, as she broke the program records for single-season average with 75.4 and her record for lowest MAC tournament score at 219,
The next-best Falcon was freshman Olivia Steen, who came in 38th place, shooting 27 over par.
Five strokes behind Steen was senior Aly Kovich, who shot +32 and finished in 43rd place.
The only other Falcon placing in the 40s was junior Emily Pantig-Nystrom, who finished in 46th place and shot +33.
Rounding out the Falcons on MAC Championship weekend was Savannah Wyrick, who shot +21 in the last two rounds and finished in 50th place.
Head Coach Erin Fahey shared her congratulations regarding Davis and the rest of her team:
“Kayla is a very deserving winner of MAC Sportswoman of the Year,” she said. “It just proves how much of a true competitor she is, and to win that award voted on by her peers is a huge honor.”
The team concludes the 2022–2023 season and will head into the offseason to prepare for next year.
