After two straight losses to Kent State and Toledo, BGSU men’s basketball traveled to Muncie, Indiana to take on Ball State, snapping their two-game losing skid with an 81-72 victory against the Cardinals.
Here’s how it went down.
Ball State got things starting with a Mickey Pearson Jr layup putting the Cardinals up 2-0 in the first half. BG quickly rebounded with a Marcus Hill dunk thirty seconds later tying the game 2-2.
Later, a Pearson Jr. layup gave Ball State an 11-6 lead in the first half taking advantage of a two-minute scoreless streak for BG. Fortunately for Bowling Green, Rashaun Agee made two free throws that snapped their scoreless run.
Halfway through the first half, DaJion Humphrey hit a three-pointer, tying the game at 13-13. A minute later, EJay Greer made a three-point shot, putting the Falcons up 16-15, their first lead of the night.
BGSU and Ball State battled back and forth throughout the half, with multiple ties and lead changes.
Bowling Green went into halftime up 33-31, Ball State’s Jalin Anderson hit a last-second jump shot that kept the Cardinals within two points heading into the half.
BG began the second half with a Jason Spurgin layup, a three from Trey Thomas, and an Agee jump shot- beginning the second half with a 7-0 run.
Ball State pulled together a scoring run that put them within three points four minutes into the second half, a jump shot by Hill put the Falcons up by five points.
As the second half raged on into its final minutes, the score 68-64 with three minutes remaining, BG’s Thomas was fouled on the three-point play- Thomas sunk all three free throws, putting the Falcons up 71-64.
Spurgin hit a three-point shot, putting the Falcons up by double digits- sealing the game for the orange and brown.
Hill had the best shooting performance of his career, shooting 13-18 and scoring 28 points on the night. Agee recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, with Spurgin also scoring 17 points.
As a team, the Falcons shot 50% from the three-point line.
BG improves to 15-6 on the season. The Falcons will face Central Michigan at the Stroh Center on Feb 3 at 5 p.m.
