BGSU softball (15-35, 7-19) ended Mid-American Conference (MAC) play with two losses in a doubleheader against Miami (OH) Wednesday at Meserve Field.
The first game started out as a defensive affair, with the scoreboard untouched until the third inning when junior infielder Hannah Hunt and redshirt freshman third baseman Addie Martin homered to put the Falcons up 3-0.
However, the RedHawks controlled the game from that point, scoring nine runs over the next five innings to win 10-4, highlighted by a five-run fourth inning.
Miami senior outfielder Shelby Kunkel shined, driving in three runs and scoring twice.
Overall, the RedHawks led the Falcons in hits 10-7, with BG also committing three errors.
Miami carried the momentum into the second game, defeating Bowling Green 12-0 in a run-rule victory to sweep the doubleheader.
The RedHawks jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs while notching a stolen base in the first inning.
Miami scored another four runs in the second frame off BGSU freshman Sydney Marshall and junior Mackenzie Krafcik.
The RedHawks never took their foot off the gas, scoring one in the third inning and five in the fourth.
Miami’s offense out-hit the Falcons 14-3, outscoring Bowling Green 22-4 across the two games.
BGSU will wrap up the season with a three-game series against Robert Morris at Meserve Field on Friday and Saturday.
