New health center construction behind schedule, to still finish on time

In an update on the University’s Falcon Health Center, a local director of the Wood County Hospital told the Undergraduate Student Government that construction is behind schedule but will still be finished on time.

Because of bad weather, the construction for the Falcon Health Center is slightly behind schedule, said Bill Kidd, director of support services for the Wood County Hospital Association, at Monday’s meeting. The crew has been working Saturdays to make up for missed days due to inclement weather, so that the project will be completed by the fall 2013 semester.

“It just might mean you have to work more expeditiously some days,” he said. “Mother Nature has not been cooperating. Spring has not arrived when I would like.”

Kidd updated USG on the planned design and color scheme for the building, which will be located at College and Wooster streets across the street from Hanna Hall.

“This building does need to fit in with the adjacent facilities,” he said.

Kidd compared the surrounding buildings, such as the McFall Center, Kohl Hall and Centennial Hall to show the diverse designs and color schemes. The Falcon Health Center, he hoped, would match the campus buildings nearby.

“You want to kind of find that campus theme,” he said.

The outside of the finalized new health center, will have a “sleak,” orange theme with beige, neutral and elongated brick, Kidd added.

The inside of the building is “going to be more clean, crisp,” Kidd said. The first floor will have “splashes of orange throughout.”

Also during the meeting, six members of USG who attended the Conference on Student Government Association before spring break presented what they learned.

COSGA is an annual national conference for student governments that takes place at Texas A&M.

“It’s a great way to learn about what other campuses are doing with their student governments,” said USG speaker Melissa Dzienny.

During lobby time, two groups asked for USG collaboration for their upcoming events.

Sophomores Kelly Schmidt and Ilyse Golding representing Dance Marathon asked for USG members to sign up at helpmakemiracles.org for the April 6 charity.

This Thursday, Dance Marathon will host a rave in the Union ballroom from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Wes Craver, the public relations chair for Alpha Phi Alpha, asked for USG’s collaboration for an upcoming stomp-down dance event hosted by the fraternity on April 6.
