With more than 3,170 followers combined, @BGSUMakeouts and @BGSUPassouts have gained a large following from tweeting the sleepy, the funny and the just plain dirty.
When students snap a picture on or off campus of a couple taking their public display of affection a little too public, the students tweet the picture to @BGSUMakeouts. If someone has fallen asleep almost anywhere on or off campus that users might find funny, students tweet the picture to @BGSUPassouts.
Two roommates moderate the accounts. One of which spoke anonymously to The BG News his or her Twitter account.
“We then take those pictures and resubmit them on our page,” the moderator said.
The moderator said the two roommates came up with the idea for @BGSUPassouts and @BGSUMakeouts after coming across two Twitter accounts from the University of Missouri with the same concept: @MizzouMakeouts and
“From there, we decided to create both @BGSUMakeouts and @BGSUPassouts as sort of something fun that we thought may catch on with the students around our area,” the moderator said.
The accounts follow more than 4,300 Twitter handlers. One of them is freshman Brooke Morgano, who has had friends retweeted from
@BGSUMakeouts and @BGSUPassouts.
“They’re kind of funny,” Morgano said. “I’ve never been on it, but it’s all in good fun. I retweet my friends with their permission.”
Senior Brittany Miller said she has used both because they’re funny and one of her friends was tweeted by
@BGSUMakeouts before. While she follows both accounts, she likes
@BGSUPassouts more.
“People probably don’t like seeing other people making out, but people think it’s funnier to see how people pass out and where,” Miller said.
As far as passing the accounts on once they have graduated, one of the moderators said the two roommates would think about it more when the time comes.
@BGSUPassouts seems to be more of a priority to them because it has drawn in more people in a shorter amount of time, the moderator said.
“It’s primarily myself that controls the account now, but initially it was both of our ideas to get the two accounts running,” the moderator said. “Currently, @BGSUMakeouts [has] just under 700 followers, but does not have a lot of interaction towards the page and admittedly; we have not placed as much effort into it as we have with
@BGSUPassouts.”
The moderator said the roommates believe @BGSUMakeouts has the capacity to gain as much popularity as
@BGSUPassouts and are still thinking about what to do after graduation with the accounts.
“If at all possible, we would like to continue operating it, but if we become too busy then there would be no point,” the moderator said. “We definitely would like to see the accounts continue.”
