Eight people were cited during a prostitution sting Saturday afternoon Victory Inn on East Wooster Street.
The sting was conducted by the Wood County Sheriff’s Office with the help of the Bowling Green police Division and Perrysburg Township Police, according to a press release form the sheriff’s office.
Antonio Humphrey, 27, of Bowling Green; Virgil Cannon, 52, of Toledo; Charity Duncan, 22, of Toledo; Brittney Johnson, 27, of Toledo; Jessica Crowell, 23, of Toledo; Sheron Grace, 31, of Toledo; and Burgess Parker, 30, of Findlay, were arrested for solicitation-prostitution, while Dawn Wilder, 33, of Toledo, was cited for complicity to solicitation-prostitution.
Crowell was also arrested for Sandusky County warrant and later transported to Sandusky County by a police officer, said Det. Chris Klewer of the sheriff’s office.
Of the eight people cited, four were prostitutes, four were soliciting.
Everyone else involved was given a citation and a court summons, no one was jailed, Klewer said.
Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn said the office conducts about 10 stings throughout the year and arrested 65 people last year throughout the county.
The sheriff’s office sets up a sting by going to popular sex websites and setting a time and location, Wasylyshyn said. Stings are hosted in motels and across the county.
Sometimes officers will either pose as prostitutes or solicitors to make the arrests during stings, he said.
Wasylyshyn believes these incidents of prostitution are related to sex trafficking in Toledo.
“It’s all part of the same family, it feeds off itself,” he said, noting that prostitution is an issue given the eight arrests in one day.
While the sting was successful, Wasylyshyn said prostitutes typically are under the management of a pimp, which in this case has not been discovered.
Sometimes these stings do result in the arrest of a pimp, which results in a felony charge, he said.
The maximum sentence for a third-degree misdemeanor is a $500 fine and 60 days in jail, Klewer said.
