The Falcon football coaching staff filled the hole that was left when Clark Lea, the linebacker coach, left for Syracuse this past month.
The new linebacker coach will be Robert Neviaser, who spent the past two seasons coaching the defense at Stony Brook University in New York. The Seawolves finished fourth in the nation in scoring defense and sixth in the nation in total defense this past season. Stony Brook is a FCS team or formerly known as Division 1-AA.
This past season the Falcons finished in the top 10 in the nation for total defense as well.
“We are very fortunate to get a coach with Rob’s experience level and familiarity with our defensive scheme,” said Head Coach Dave Clawson in a press release Wednesday. “Rob has a great reputation as a defensive coordinator, is an excellent teacher of defensive fundamentals and has a proven track record of being a successful recruiter. Rob also has an understanding of the emphasis we place on academics and overall character development of our student-athletes.”
Neviaser has also spent time coaching at Rhode Island, Delaware, Yale, Boston College and Harvard.
Along with Neviaser, Clawson also announced Alex Stadler as an addition to his staff.
Stadler is a graduate assistant with the BG football program, and was a three-time all-conference offensive lineman at Liberty University. He also spent time as a graduate assistant at Richmond.
Clawson, before coaching the Falcons, spent time coaching some Northeastern teams as well. He coached various roles at Albany, Buffalo, Lehigh, Villanova, Fordham, Richmond and Tennessee.
