Former BG defensive tackle Chris Jones was drafted in the sixth round by the Houston Texans in April’s NFL draft.
He was released by the Texans in late August, but was soon claimed off waivers by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before the start of the NFL season this past week.
Jones spent the summer with the Houston Texans and survived roster cuts throughout training camp but was let go before the Texans’ 53-man roster was announced.
Tampa Bay signed Jones following his release from Houston. Jones did not appear in the Buccaneers’ season opener against the New York Jets.
In his senior year at BG Jones was named Mid-American Player of the Year totalling 42 tackles, 12.5 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He also finished third in the country in sacks and tied for seventh in tackles for a loss, while leading the Falcons to an eight-win season and a berth into the Humanatrian Bowl.
In his career he played in 50 straight games, making 44 consecutive starts. Jones has 157 career tackles, 28 sacks, 46 tackles for loss, six forced fumbles and five fumble recoveries.
