UPDATE: August 22, 10:12 A.M.
Bowling Green Police took a suspect charged with aggravated robbery and kidnapping into custody on Tuesday.
Police believe Brittany Long, 20, of Toledo, and two others were involved in the kidnapping of a male student from Univesity of Toledo, according to Maj. Tony Hetrick, deputy chief of the Bowling Green Police Division.
The three allegedly convinced the student in a chat room that they would take him to Cedar Point, but instead took him to an abandoned house in Bowling Green on the 100 block of Palmer Avenue and robbed him at knife point, Hetrick said.
“They took his phone and wallet and used his debit cards at various locations,” he said.
The kidnappers then took him to an Econo Lodge in Holland, Ohio and tried to secure ransom from his family. When that failed, they returned the student back to Toledo, Hetrick said.
A representative from the Econo Lodge said the suspects rented one room but did not make any calls from the room. There is video footage of one person renting the room, but he said he did not know for how long the suspects and victim were in the room.
Police are investigating the whereabouts of the other two involved and are unsure of the role of a fourth person, a female, who was also in the car during the kidnapping, Hetrick said.
Long’s attorney made arrangements with Bowling Green police to turn herself in on Tuesday, when she was transported to the Wood County Justice Center, he said.
Her preliminary hearing is Aug. 28 at 1 p.m., according to a Bowling Green Municipal Court docket.
