Wright State defeated Bowling Green 46-43 Sunday afternoon taking their home record to 8-0 this season.
Senior forward AJ Pacher had 14 points and nine rebounds he led the Raiders in both scoring and rebounds. Other senior leadership came from Miles Dixon who had 13 points of his own.
Wright state held Bowling Green to a season low 43 points. “We want to keep teams under 50 points a game, that’s Wright State defense.” Dixon said.
After a sluggish first half start the Falcons were facing a 26-19 deficit. Wright State increased their lead to 38-24 with just over 11 minutes left remaining in the second half.
With the Falcons trailing by 14, Richaun Holmes provided a spark with 11 second half points, including a game high 15 points. Holmes also recorded his second double double of the season.
After a fast break where Holmes completed a three-point play the Wright State lead was cut to 45-42 with 2:18 remaining. With 40 seconds remaining and the Falcons trailing by two, point guard Jehvon Clarke was driving to the lane when Wright State defender Matt Vest stole the ball, which then led to a foul and a Dixon free throw to make the lead 46-43.
The Falcons would still have one more chance when Holmes three point attempt from the left elbow was right on line, but just hit back rim, making the final score 46-43.
Wright State coach Billy Donlon said that their defense played exceptionally well, holding the Falcons to 43 percent from the floor, and 20 percent from the three-point line.
“Our defense is our hardhat, and that’s not going to change,” he said. “You have to rely on your defense every night to win the game.”
Despite the Falcons holding Wright State to 36 percent shooting from the floor, and 0-13 shooting from the three-point line they only forced 13 turnovers, while committing 21 of their own.
The Falcons fell to 6-6 on the season, and will continue non-conference play against IPFW on January 2nd at the Stroh Center.
