Bowling Green pitcher Mike Frank earned Mid-American Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week for the second time in as many weeks this past Monday. After his performance last weekend against Northern Illinois, Frank earned his second victory of the season this past Saturday in his outing against Western Michigan.
Frank had a career high 12 strikeouts during his complete game victory. While Frank picked up his second victory of the season, he allowed just one run on four hits in the 3-1 victory.
The Falcons hopped on the scoreboard right away in the first inning when T.J. Losby singled home Brian Bien to give the orange and brown the lead. Later in the inning, Logan Walker was walked with the bases loaded to score Andrew Kubuski, which gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead.
While Frank was given an early 2-0 lead, he would strike out at least one Bronco batter in the first six innings of the ballgame. Western Michigan’s lone run would come in the bottom of the ninth inning when a leadoff double would eventually score on a ground out later that inning.
During Frank’s 108 pitch outing he faced a season-high 32 batters. Frank is now 2-4 on the season and 25.1 innings behind Kip Young, who is the schools all-time leader in innings pitched. After his 12 strikeout performance against Western Michigan, Frank is 39 behind Young for the strikeout record.
After taking two of three games this weekend against the Broncos, the Falcons resume play at Steller Field on Tuesday against Toledo at 3:05 p.m.
