The University Wellness Connection, along with local restaurants and other agencies, are hosting the annual Sexual Assault Awareness Month 5K and Dog Walk Saturday April 26.
The 5K is a way for the Sexual Assault and Abuse Free Environment Center, or SAAFE, to raise money for victims. The center in Wood County provides emotional support interventions, medical attention, support groups, and referrals for those who are currently being sexually harassed or trafficked.
Cheyenne Nawrot, Wellness Connection intern, is involved with the project and said the event is a good way to bring awareness to the subject.
“I think that it’s great for people to come together for a cause that can help save the life of someone else,” Nawrot said.
The registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the walk will start at 10 a.m. The Wellness Connection is still looking for volunteers to help set up water stations and hand out race times.
“People should get involved in something going towards helping to make our community safer and spread awareness,” Nawrot said.
