The University released a statement Friday afternoon regarding the tabled Undergraduate Student Government resolution and The BG News.
“The University will take no action that interferes with the independence of The BG News and the publication’s First Amendment rights, just as we will not interfere with or restrict the operation or rights of the [USG] or its members,” according to the statement sent by David Kielmeyer, University Spokesperson.
After hearing concerns on both sides of the issue, Kielmeyer said the University wanted to clarify its position. No resolution has been sent to the University either since it was tabled, he said.
“USG is free to conduct business as it sees fit just as [The BG News] is free to do its job,” he said.
