The BG women’s basketball team defeated Western Michigan 72-50 at home Wednesday night to advance to 19-3 overall and 9-1 in the Mid-American Conference.
Both the Falcons and the Broncos came out shooting cold in the first half. BG went just 11-of-27 from the field in the first half and WMU went 12-of-32. The Falcons did go 6-of-11 from three-point land, thanks in part to senior Jillian Halfhill, who went 4-6 from behind the arc in the first half to keep the Falcons in the game. BG went into halftime with just a two point lead.
The Falcons came out as a whole new team in the second half, shooting much better and shutting down the Broncos on the other end of the basket as well. BG went on a 25-4 run in the second half to put Western Michigan down as much as 26. The Falcons’ commanding lead proved to be just too much for the Broncos to overcome.
Halfhill led all scorers with 22 points on the night. Redshirt senior Alexis Rogers finished with 16 and redshirt sophomore added 12 points to round out BG’s double digit scorers.
The Falcons will return to the Stroh Center on Sunday, Feb. 9 as they take on Miami at 2 p.m. in another conference matchup.
