  • My Fiction Icks
By Jay Grummel When you read as much as I do you start to notice common things in fiction that make you annoyed, upset  or even want to put down the book completely. I have a bad habit of not giving books much of a chance when they use some of these personal ‘icks’. However, […]
  • Poetry for Fall
By Jay Grummel Poetry has a way of connecting us to the external and internal world. In poetry it is easier to feel a season and truly feel a piece due to this. Poetry has a subtle way of making the readers immersed into the world of the poem. With the air getting colder and […]

Get to know 2014-2015 women’s basketball recruits

Coming off a 30-win season and Mid-American Conference regular-season title in the 2013-14 season, expectations are high surrounding this year’s BG women’s basketball team.

This past season, the Falcons had a 12-man roster that got limited to nine with the losses of senior Katrina Salinas and freshmen Kennedy Kirkpatrick and Leah Bolton to season-ending injuries. The Falcons will again have to battle a short roster this year.

With the loss of Jillian Halfhill, Alexis Rogers, Jill Stein and Katrina Salinas, the BG roster was down to eight. With the addition of the four freshman, the roster will again be just twelve.

With a small roster, head coach Jennifer Roos brought in players who have the potential to contribute in just their first year of play. Those recruits include Rachel Myers, Sarah Baer, Haley Puk and Lauren Webb.

“I think they all will contribute with such a small roster,” Roos said. “As of right now, for us to be successful, everyone is going to have to contribute.”

In order to contribute immediately, the freshman will have to pick up Roos’ system immediately.

“First of all they’ve got to learn our offensive system and defensive system that we’re looking to implement,” Roos said. “We have a lot of plays offensively and defensively. They’re going to be pushed to increase their knowledge of our system and the opponents systems that we play.”
