With many changes throughout Bowling Green State University taking form, the athletic department had one of their own to make on Sunday.
BGSU will not renew their contract with Adidas, and has struck a deal with Nike to sponsor campus athletics.
While the switch will not take effect immediately, the University’s apparel will soon feature the well-known Nike “swoosh”.
While for some people this may appear to be merely a matter of preference, instead, it has a chance to be change the University.
With the recent popularity of the University of Oregon and their unforgettable uniforms, then a myriad of other institutions following suit, the common theme is kids want not just to play good, but to look good while doing it.
If the “swoosh” is what makes the kids feel good, then the University didn’t have much choice but to find a way to make the deal happen.
They did just that and excitement over social media was uncontainable.
Photos and tweets regarding the switch filled social media that it became hard not to be aware of the announcement.
The University presumably hopes that the switch will continue the building process of campus athletics, and the recent success will continue to grow with the Nike apparel.
Whether you identify as a sports fan or not, Nike has branded itself as a premiere athletic brand and your university now shares the established identity.
The University ‘just did it’ as change continues to fill the obscure Bowling Green air.
