Here’s my review of Oil on Water by Helon Habila – a petrofiction novel which won The Commonwealth Prize and Caine Prize. For context, petrofiction stems from petroleum and fiction. On Friday the 4th, Ball State (6-6) stunned a seemingly unbeatable Toledo (19-5 overall, 11-2 in the conference) team. For the first time in weeks, Toledo was bumped down to the number two spot in the conference. That was for three whole days. Ohio (10-2) owned the top spot in the MAC for Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and part of Tuesday, before Toledo beat them to reclaim the top spot.

Setric Millner Jr. led the Rockets in scoring with 18 points over the Bobcats on Tuesday evening. JT Shumate was a big contributor as well with 17 of his own points, while pulling down 7 rebounds and swatting 7 of the Bobcats’ shots. Ryan Rollins had 15 points with a whopping 16 rebounds and 8 assists. Rollins continues to prove he is the real deal as a guard for Toledo.

Coach Todd Kowalczyk credits the defense for the home win over the leaders in the conference.

“I thought our defense played a big role tonight with the way we defended from start to finish. We got some separation late in the first half and sometimes that’s all it takes when two good teams are facing each other.”

When you’re playing another excellent basketball team, you need any edge you can get. In this case, the Rocket defense really stepped up and became the difference maker. Toledo looks to continue their new win streak against Northern Illinois (3-8) on Saturday.

Saturday
