Gardner’s first career goal pushes Falcons to 1-1 tie against Bearcats

BGSU Women’s Soccer battled the Cincinnati Bearcats to a 1-1 tie on Thursday at Cochrane Stadium.

The two teams would remain scoreless until preseason All AAC forward Vanessa DiNardo would give the Bearcats the 1-0 lead in the 38th minute after putting one past Falcons goalkeeper Lili Berg.

The second half would start much the same as the first, as both defenses would stand strong till Cincinnati’s Vyvienne Spaulding would go down with a knee injury and leave the game.

The Falcons would continue to test goalkeeper Anna Rexford with no luck until the 71st minute, when junior Lacee Bethea would make a beautiful cross pass to freshman Brynn Gardner who would bury BGSU’s first goal of the season, and her first goal of her career, making the match 1-1.

The game would pause at the 74th minute mark after Alaina Uncapher would collide with Cincinnati’s Ashley Barron where both would exit with injuries.

Both offenses would be unable to add the scoreboard, ending the game in a 1-1 tie.

“I’m just so pleased with our team’s performance today against a really good Cincinnati team,” Head Coach Jimmy Walker said. “I am proud of the entire team — the starting 11, the players that came off the bench, the players that were cheering them on. We talked a lot about how disappointed we were about our start against Michigan State. We needed to come out and compete, right from the start, and we did a great job of that today.”

The Lady Falcons will head on the road to Tennessee on Wednesday, August 31, where they will be looking for their first win of the season. They will be back home against Detroit Mercy for senior day on September 4 at 1pm.
