Mayor Richard Edwards is working to appoint a task force that will help decide what to do with the city’s green space, he said at Monday’s city council meeting.

The green space, located at the corner of South Church and West Wooster Streets, is the result of the demolition of Bowling Green Junior High School. The space has remained empty since the school was demolished in 2012.

The task force will work with city council’s Public Lands and Buildings Committee, which is chaired by 4th Ward council member Theresa Charters-Gavarone. At-large council member Bruce Jeffers and 2nd Ward council member John Zanfardino also serve on the committee.

Edwards has met with people interested in the task force, and said he expects at least one more meeting before the task force is assembled. The task force could be announced at the next council meeting on May 4.

The green space has “become pretty special territory for a lot of folks in our community,” Edwards said.
