Undergraduate Student Government to donate to Alpha Xi Delta
March 19, 2012
A donation from the Undergraduate Student Government will be given to the students who were involved in the March 2 Interstate 75 crash and their families.
At the USG meeting Monday night, senators voted to donate the money from the USG swear jar, which is currently $35, to Alpha Xi Delta Women’s Fraternity.
Senators expressed discontent with the low amount of money available to donate.
Though there is money in the USG budget, Adviser Michael Ginsburg said the group cannot allocate money from its budget to a charity.
President Emily Ancinec encouraged the senate to donate more money privately if they weren’t satisfied with the amount.
“If [$35] doesn’t seem like a lot to you guys, I encourage you to donate yourself, independent of the swear jar,” Ancinec said.
Senator Mathew Davoli also asked the senators to donate more money, saying the low amount could be seen as insulting.
Davoli made a pledge sheet and passed it around, asking senators to donate $10.
Near the end of the semester, Derek Sword, internal affairs chair, will take the money to the Alpha Xi Delta house.
