City Brief: Armed robbery reported at Speedway under investigation

A man was identified after an armed robery was reported in Bowling Green on Monday morning.

Police responded to the report of an armed robery at the Speedway Gas Station on East Wooster Street at approximately 12:41 a.m., according to a press release from the Bowling Green Police Division released Monday.

City police officers with the assistance of Wood County Sheriff’s Office deputies identified the man as Jason J. Bruggemeier, 35, with an unlisted address. Bruggemeier was taken into custody by the city police, according to the press release. The subject was lodged in the Wood County Justice Center, according to the police’s incident report.

The clerk at Speedway, Civion J. Thomas, 19, reported that the subject entered the business, confronted him at the counter and demanded money from the cash register. The subjects hand was also reportedly resting on a “large black object” in his pocket. The clerk said he gave the subject an undisclosed amount of money from the register and the offender fled the business on foot, according to the release. Bruggemeier was stopped by the police at Clough Street and Campbell Hill Road, according to the incident report.

Police reported that Bruggemeier matched the decsription of the offender provided by the clerk.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the police division at 419-352-2571 or Wood County CrimeStoppers at 800-54-CRIME or 419-352-0077. If information received through CrimeStoppers leads to a prosecution, anonymous informants are eligible for a reward of up to $1000.
