BG track and field finishes 11th at MAC Championships
February 26, 2012
The BG track and field team had a rough team performance this weekend, finishing 11th at the Mid-American Conference indoor championship meet at the University of Akron.
However, head coach Lou Snelling was expecting this type of performance from the team.
“Overall we had a positive second day,” Snelling said. “The team results for the meet were expected.”
Junior runner Jeanette Pettigrew stepped up on the second day of the meet after having a rough first day on Friday. Pettigrew finished second in the 200-meter dash and then helped the 4×400 meter relay team consisting of herself, junior Felica Jefferson, sophomore Allorian Horne and junior Allison Weimer to boost their season-best time by eight seconds.
Though the Falcons had a poor team performance, Snelling is optimistic to what the future holds for the program.
“Our long-term goals are obviously much higher,” Snelling said. “I’m excited to think about the progress this program will make over the next several years.”
The next scheduled meet will be the Alex Wilson Invitational this weekend at the University of Notre Dame, but it is uncertain whether the team will compete in it.
The outdoor track and field season begins March 17 with the UC Early Bird Relays hosted at the University of Cincinnati.
