University President Mary Ellen Mazey hosted her second open forum Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Union.
Faculty, staff and students can ask Mazey questions at the forums.
“The purpose is to be as open and transparent as possible at BGSU,” Mazey said.
Some participants asked questions about contract negotiations between faculty union and the University.
When an English faculty member asked whether Mazey is committed to market salaries, Mazey replied and then said she will not negotiate during the forum.
“The negotiations take place at the table,” she said.
Mazey was questioned about the length of time the negotiations are taking.
“Because there was a change in the administration, the negotiations really didn’t start until last August,” Mazey said. “If we complete this contract by next July, we would actually be ahead.”
She then said there is no deadline for the negotiations.
“I don’t have a deadline — as soon as we can get an agreement on the rest of the articles,” Mazey said.
The questions about contract negotiations continued, with a few questions about topics such as tenure track professors and research.
“Every faculty position is a very precious position,” Mazey said.
She also answered questions about sustainability, the University as a business and GeoJourney.
Mazey thanked everyone for attending when the discussion ended.
“We’re all in this room for one reason and one reason only, and that’s to build this great University,” she said.
The next President’s Forum is Nov. 15 from 11 a.m. to noon in 206 Union.
