The volleyball team will play their second home match of the season tonight at 7 p.m. in Anderson Arena against Kent State. “It’ll be good to play at home against Kent,” BG coach Denise Van De Walle said. “We’ve only been home one time out of our eleven matches.”
The Falcons are 8-3 overall and 2-2 in the Mid-American Conference, while the Golden Flashes post a 9-5 overall record and a 4-3 MAC record.
“We’re 8-3, that’s a very good record,” Van De Walle said. “We have to start believing in ourselves again. We’ve won twice as many times as we’ve lost. We’re reacting to the losses deeply. When we get up in the 20s we need to become more aggressive and we’re not.”
Last week, Kent State had three conference matches, losing to Akron 2-3 and Northern Illinois 1-3, before defeating Ohio in three straight games.
Bowling Green leads the series against the Golden Flashes, 34-12. Kent State took two of the three matches they played last season.
“I think we’ve got to get a really competitive attitude out on the floor,” Van De Walle said. “We need to focus on being aggressive attackers and block well. Rally scoring has hurt our competitive drive. We’re becoming too passive. We need to play aggressively and not be afraid to error.”
The Falcons will continue MAC action to face Toledo Friday and Eastern Michigan Saturday. The Rockets are 8-5 overall and 4-3 in the MAC, while the Eagles are 9-4 overall and 5-2 in the MAC.
