Despite a 4-6-1 record, women’s soccer coach Andy Richards said he isn’t scared of any team.
‘There’s nobody we fear,’ Richards said profoundly.
This is the type of brave and bold mentality that is keeping the BG women’s soccer team alive this season.
The Falcons are a far cry away from last year’s 12-6-4 record, but don’t tell Richards this season is even close to being over. After a rough weekend on the road in the Mid-American Conference last weekend, BG plays on the road at Ball State and Miami this weekend.
He’s keeping positive about playing on the road, too, despite a 1-5-1 record away from Cochrane Field.
‘Look at who the four losses are against,’ Richards said. ‘Two Big Ten teams and two west coast teams.’
But what about the two losses to MAC teams last weekend?
‘It wouldn’t matter who we played last weekend,’ Richards said. ‘We need to make things right. The difference of winning and losing is tiny; the feeling is huge.’
And Richards wants to win badly. The Falcons travel to Ball State (3-6-0) this afternoon for a 4 p.m. game and to Oxford to take on Miami (4-4-1) Sunday at 1 p.m.
The coach is hoping that his competitive spirit will light a fire under his struggling team.
‘We’ve seen splashes of momentum but nothing has sustained,’ Richards said.
