A nearly full stadium of Falcon faithful are expected to put on their game faces and be in attendance for Saturday’s game against No. 8 Boise State University at Doyt Perry Stadium.
Boise State will become the highest ranking team to ever play in Bowling Green, surpassing then-No. 12 Northern Illinois University, who came to town in 2003.
That day, the Falcons won 34-18 in front of 31,007 people, including a record 10,051 students and the ESPN College Gameday crew.
While the Falcon football team will come into Saturday’s game as a heavy underdog, BG coach Dave Clawson is hopeful plenty of people will be on hand intent on rooting for the Falcons.
‘You hope part of the reason they are here is to see the Bowling Green Falcons, but obviously Boise is a big draw,’ Clawson said, later adding, ‘We just have to make sure people wear orange and brown, not orange and blue.’
The team drew a nice crowd in Week 1 against Troy University as 14,514 fans, including 5,686 students, took in the contest as the Falcons dismantled the Trojans 31-14.
‘It was really nice and spirited. I was impressed,’ said sophomore Jeff Baldwin.
Baldwin also plans to be at Saturday’s game and said he thinks the atmosphere will be twice as spirited as it was against Troy.
Senior quarterback Tyler Sheehan agrees.
‘We’re expecting a lot of fans,’ Sheehan said. ‘We haven’t had an environment like we will [Saturday].’
The team came close last season when the Big Ten’s University of Minnesota was in town for the home opener. A total of 23,182 people took in that game.
But Saturday’s environment is something that should help players get more pumped up for the game.
‘I feel like as a team we’re going to be pumped just to be playing a game, but to have all those people there supporting us is really going to help us out,’ senior linebacker James Schneider said.
For freshman Jasmine Travers, she will be at the field supporting the team in hopes of a big win.
‘I want us to really kill them,’ Travers said.
