Between the guitar riffs and heavenly vocals by the performers at the third annual Coffee House Theme Variety Show were donations benefiting Dance Marathon and the Children’s Miracle Network.
Rachel Blesch and Bernadette Wiggin are a part of H2O and helped set up the event.
‘I helped with decorating and organizing performers where they needed to go, and helped with advertising for this event as well,’ Wiggin said. ‘I love anything musical and it’s a good opportunity to show people’s talent; it’s a good cause for the community as well.’
Twelve acts performed, such as singing, comedy and salsa dancing.
‘It’s an awesome show and everyone is wonderful,’ said senior Mallory Sanders, an audience member.
But those who organized the event said the main goal of the night was to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network.
‘We do sets and things, but we just try to get people gathered to watch and raise money for Dance Marathon,’ Blesch said. ‘We accepted donations before and during [the event].’
Blesch said she really started to get involved with the community by getting into Social Justice Organizations.
‘I asked the leaders to put on a coffee house variety show and they agreed, so we decided to go with Dance Marathon because we knew a lot of people were involved with helping the community,’ Blesch said.
Many audience members were pleased with the talent on display last night.
‘I really liked the show,’ said senior Tommie James. ‘It’s for a great cause with the donations and everybody had amazing talent.’
