BGSU dining director Michael Paulus spoke to USG this Monday night, talking with senators about information from the University’s dining services.
The major topic was the upcoming opening of the new Teaching Kitchen at the Oaks Dining Center on campus. The new state of the art facility will serve as an educational tool for students and the Bowling Green community.
The Teaching Kitchen will offer courses of varying length and involvement, such as 15-minute demonstration classes and Night Dinner classes, the latter of which will be “date night” experiences for couples. Dining services will be holding tours of the facility Feb. 5 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
“This is a space that we can share our culinary passion with our students, with the community,” Paulus said. “We can use this space to train our staff, as well. We wanted to create a space that would work for ourselves internally, for the community and then to share our passion with the student body, as well.”
Avery Dowell, a member of the Union Activities Organization, also addressed USG regarding UAO and upcoming events it will be organizing this semester.
Ben Nemtin, star of the MTV show “The Buried Life,” will be giving a presentation titled “5 Steps to Making the Impossible Possible” on Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the student union ballroom. Nemtin is also the author of the New York Times best-selling book “What Do You Want to Do Before You Die?” and an internationally-known keynote speaker.
UAO is also organizing a TEDx Program event at the University. The event will be held on April 15; any student, staff member or community member can apply through UAO to give a presentation.
USG also discussed:
• 2017/2018 Senate Resolution No. 3 in support of the Student Green Initiative Fund’s solar pledge of $500,000. USG unanimously passed the resolution.
• 2017/2018 Senate Resolution No. 4 supporting the implementation of increased tobacco-free campus signage across the University campus.
• The Ohio Community Rights Workshop. The event will be held Feb. 17 from 8:45 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. The event will delve into what communities are doing to elevate the rights of towns and natural habitats over the corporate state.
