  • They Both Die at the End – General Review
Summer break is the perfect opportunity to get back into reading. Adam Silvera’s (2017) novel, They Both Die at the End, can serve as a stepping stone into the realm of reading. The pace is fast, action-packed, and develops loveable characters. Also, Silvera switches point of view each chapter where narration mainly focuses on the protagonists, […]
  • My Favorite Book – Freshwater
If there’s one book that I believe everyone should read once in their life, it’s my favorite book – Freshwater by Akwaeke Emezi. From my course, Queer Literature under Dr. Bill Albertini, I discovered Emezi’s Freshwater (2018). Once more, my course, Creative Writing Thesis Workshop under Professor Amorak Huey, was instructed to present our favorite […]

Have some of that, Mel Kiper Jr.

The NFL Draft tomorrow is make-or-break time for NFL teams. No longer is free agency looked at as the gateway to championships but the draft is.

Teams are built from the draft and that is why tomorrow is the most important day of the year for NFL teams. Looking at the draft, there is a lot of depth in the 2005 class, especially in the later rounds. Here is my mock draft or my best guess based on research I can deliver.

I am not a draft genius, and even Mel Kiper Jr., the “God of the draft” is wrong sometimes. Anything can happen on draft day and one surprise pick can mess up the entire first round.

Here’s my best shot at a mock draft after researching since the day after last year’s draft.

1. San Francisco 49ers — It looked like all last week the 49ers were going to draft QB, Aaron Rodgers, but recently that has fell though because the front office is split on who to take. I expect the 49ers to take the better QB in the draft, Alex Smith.

2. Miami — The Dolphins are the most open team about trading out of the top 10. This is because they have no second-round pick. If the dolphins do not trade this pick, they will take the best player in the board, Braylon Edwards and address running back later in round three.

3. Cleveland — The Browns also want to trade out of the top 10. Phil Savage, Browns general manager, is determined to draft the best player available. With Braylon Edwards off the board, Minnesota may trade up to guarantee themselves, Mike Williams. The Browns instead will take Mike Williams. Imagine K2 and Williams on the same field.

4. Chicago — The Bears need to address running back or defense. This is going to be an intriguing pick. The Bears will select Ronnie Brown, running back from Auburn.

5. Tampa Bay — After Tampa Bay missed out on trading up for Mike Williams, who John Gruden covets, they need to take the best player on the board. Cadillac Williams of Auburn.

6. Tennessee — The Titans have been through cap room hell and back. Over the past two off seasons, they have released all of their main contributors from their Super Bowl team except Steve McNair. Possibly with Aaron Rodgers on the board they can take him to learn behind McNair but instead they can’t pass up Antrel Rolle cornerback from Miami.

7. Minnesota — If the Vikings don’t trade up to guarantee themselves the top two wideouts, I would be surprised. With them off the board, they look to revamp their offense even more and draft RB Cedric Benson from Texas.

8. Arizona Cardinals — The Cardinals can go many different ways with this pick. They will probably trade for Travis Henry, so this pick is a no brainer for Coach Dennis Green. They select Aaron Rodgers to learn behind two-time MVP Kurt Warner.

9. Washington — The Redskins have two picks in the first round. After losing corner Fred Smoot, they select Adam “Pac Man” Jones from West Virginia to take his place.

10. Detroit — After going offense in the past five drafts, the Lions are thrilled to have linebacker Derrick Johnson staring them down at no. 10. Johnson is being compared to Ray Lewis, enough said.

11. Dallas Cowboys — The Cowboys also have two picks in the first round and need to address a sad rushing defense. They select a hybrid type player in DE Shawn Merriman.

12. San Diego — The Chargers are in need of another offensive threat. They can address D-line in with their second pick in round one. They select speedy WR Troy Williamson of South Carolina.

13. Houston Texans — They traded away their 2nd and 3rd round picks and are looking to upgrade the offensive line. It’s a safe pick and the Texans will select T Alex Barron.

14. Carolina Panthers — The Panthers want to add more depth to their defense. They add a true DE in Marcus Spears of LSU.

15. Kansas City Chiefs — The chiefs need to upgrade their poor secondary. They may trade with Miami on draft day for Patrick Surtain but either way they can use CB Carlos Rogers of Auburn.

16. New Orleans — Their need of an impact defensive player may force them to reach here and take S Thomas Davis of Georgia.

17. Cincinnati Bengals — The Bengals can look to improve in many different areas. Especially on the defensive side of the ball. They will add depth to their line by taking DT Travis Johnson of Florida St.

18. Minnesota Vikings — Adding a running back with the 7th pick. They will add more depth to the offensive core with WR Mark Clayton from Oklahoma.

19. St Louis Rams — With T Kyle Turley leaving the team, they will draft an offensive lineman to have opposite Orlando Pace. They select T Jammal Brown of Oklahoma.

20. Dallas Cowboys — The cowboys wanted to upgrade at receiver but the top four are off the board. They will be glad to take DE Erasmus James and add more skill players to their struggling rush defense.

21.Jacksonville — The Jaguars almost made a playoff push last season and need to upgrade their secondary. They will select CB Fabian Washington from Nebraska.

22. Baltimore Ravens — The Ravens always have great drafts. This defensive player should bolster this team and work well with Ray Lewis. They select DE David Pollack of Georgia.

23. Seattle Seahawks — Seattle wants to upgrade their defense. They can go many different directions with this pick. But in the end they select Troy State DE DeMarcus Ware.

24. Green Bay — With Brett Favre on the verge of retirement they may take Jason Campbell or Charlie Frye. But I think they can wait till the second round and take Kyle Orton or Frye if he slips. The packers upgrade the D and take Iowa DE Matt Roth.

25. Washington Redskins — The Redskins traded to get two picks in the first round for a reason. That reason being a QB Jason Campbell of Auburn.

26. Oakland — After having a great off-season with accruing Randy Moss the Raiders take CB Justin Miller of Clemson.

27. Atlanta Falcons — The Falcons need help on D. Their offense is explosive and WR Roddy White of UAB may be tempting to add. But in the end its D-line help with Dan Cody of Oklahoma.

28. San Diego — The chargers will be thrilled if this D-lineman is still on the board. They take USC DT Shaun Cody.

29. Indianapolis — The colts have the best offense in the NFL and will address defense. They have a reputation of taking Big Ten talent (Doss, Sanders and Clark). The trend continues as they select CB Marlin Jackson, Michigan.

30. Pittsburgh Steelers — The Steelers need to address offense after losing Plaxico Burress. They are thrilled that TE Heath Miller fell into their laps.

31. Philadelphia Eagles — The surprise pick in the Draft, the Eagles will take WR/QB Matt Jones of Arkansas.

32. New England — The Patriots need to upgrade at linebacker and take Darryl Blackstock of Virginia.
