The ice hockey team gets ready to begin their final home stretch of the season this weekend as they take on the only team below them in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association, Lake Superior State, at BGSU Ice Arena.
The Lakers sit three points behind the Falcons in the CCHA.
These two teams faced off earlier in the season and came away with a split, each team recording a 3-2 victory.
However, the Falcons have the upper hand winning seven of the last 10 home games verse LSSU including four straight victories.
Both teams are coming off dual losses. BG dropped a pair to Ferris State (5-2, 6-3) last weekend, while the Lakers lost two to Michigan (1-0, 5-0).
Freshman goalie Jordan Sigalet started the second period in net last Friday for junior starter Tyler Masters. He allowed two goals on 25 shots for two periods of action. Sigalet continued to stay in goal for the Falcons Saturday as he had a career-high 48 saves on 54 shots.
BG’s second short-handed goal of the year was scored Friday by sophomore Mark Wires to give the Falcons their first goal of the weekend. He also scored a goal Saturday, which was the first time he scored back-to-back goals since Oct. 20 and 26 versus Northern Illinois and Ohio State.
Saturday Senior Scott Hewson and sophomore Kevin Bieksa scored BG’s first power play goals in 36 attempts.
Wires, along with senior Marc Barlow, each have two-game point streaks heading into this weekend?s series with LSSU. Barlow had two assists on the weekend.
NOTE
The Falcons were without senior captain Greg Day, who missed his first collegiate hockey game due to a laceration he suffered above his left ankle in the third period of play of Friday night’s game. He absence snapped a streak of playing 146-consecutive games.
