While there is always reason to like a CD there is also reason to have a strong distaste for one as well.
Tree63?s latest release ?The Life and Times of Absolute Truth,? outside of an inventive and clever title, lacks in many aspects. Or rather, draws upon the imperfections of guitar?s gone electronica in some senses.
Tree63 uses guitars and echo to claim an up-tempo attempt at what seems to be revival of lost 80?s music. I always look for things I like in everything that I pursue, and what this CD has is potential. It falls short in comparison to the musicians they are attempting to impersonate of the past and present.
I will give them due credit where credit is deserved. They do make a great effort with lyrics such as ?Here of all places/I?m face to face with/what you began and what I?ve become/first there was fire/now, just a flicker.? It just takes an awful twist into 80?s renditions.
Some of the songs are salvagable. ?All Because? covers for the lack-luster renditions by flowing into style and poise with a slow, relaxing song of love. If you get past the first two songs you may enjoy SOME of the other songs. They make a valiant effort, and for that they do deserve a listen?come find me and you can borrow it.
