The Bowling Green men’s golf team is currently in Cincinnati, competing in the Xavier University Invitational. This tournament marks the end of the Falcons fall season, and will not pick back up until spring.
The Falcons are playing in this tournament, which began yesterday and runs through tomorrow, fully-rested. The Falcons last played in the Eastern Kentucky Colonial Invitational, which ended Sept. 28, over two weeks ago. The Falcons finished tied for twelfth overall in the tournament and are undoubtedly looking to improve their finish with a good start this week in Cincinnati.
The Falcons also hope to improve from their performance last year in Cincinnati. The Falcons finished tied for thirteenth overall, in the 21-team tournament. The 13th-place finish for the Falcons was highlighted by Austin Chase’s performance. Chase shot a 217 overall, which was good enough to place him in the top 20 for the tournament.
Now a sophomore, Chase will most likely be looked to again to post a good score for the Falcons this week. Along with Chase, Craig Pickerel and Andy Miller will also be looked upon to card good scores. The tournament this week is crucial for the Falcons, and a good score for the team will boost them into the spring season.
The young and once inexperienced team is playing very well this season. With inclement weather playing roles in several of their tournaments, the younger and inexperienced golfers were forced to adjust quickly to college golf. This fall season, if nothing else, has served as a key learning tool for many of the Falcons. The tournament is important for the Falcons this year, with the best finish of fifth place this season, they are undoubtedly hoping for a good team performance.
